Seal

The official seal of Nathan M. Smith, Notary Public is circular, in red ink, with the scales of justice symbol in the middle. The words "Nathan M. Smith" and "Michigan Notary Comm Exp." surrounding the scales of justice. The seal is not embossed. Notarization is not valid unless it also has my signature on it.

Notary Requirements

Proof of identification such as
a driver license, passport or state issued personal identification card must be presented at time of service. Notary reserves the right to refuse service for any reason such as suspicion of fraud. Notarization must take place in Michigan.

Process Services Requirements

I cannot perform process services for federal lawsuits or criminal lawsuits, or perform process services further than 75 miles from zipcode 49116.

Process services cannot be performed on Sundays. Process services cannot be performed on election days. Process services cannot be performed at a worship service. After three attempts are made, no further attempts can be made, and your summons, complaint, and a service attempt form will be returned to you.

Proof of service will be mailed to you. You are responsible for providing proof of service to your court.  

Michigan Penal Code 750.479 prohibits resisting or obstructing a process server in the performance of their lawful duties punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 2 years, or by a fine of not more than 1,000 dollars.
